A few of my tips and tricks to getting great skin, hair and nails by enriching your diet with vitamins, supplements, and foods.
Hyaluronic Acid- Hyaluronic acid is present in every tissue of the body, and it performs many important functions. It helps deliver nutrients to and carry toxins from cells that do not have a blood supply, Not only does it keep joints lubricated, but hyaluronic acid also encourages water retention in other bodily tissues. VegNews Magazine (which has a pretty awesome website, btw) is hosting the 2010 Veggie Awards. One of our SUPER SUPPLIERS, The Inspired Cookie, is competing in the cookie category! Sarah Gill is the mastermind behind these delicious cookies! Her Peppermint Chocolate Chunk is mint chocolaty goodness and doesn’t even taste like it’s gluten-free and vegan. It’s my go-to snack when I’m craving something sweet. Read the rest from Philz Coffee...
Ok, we all know the big scare about BPA (bisphenol-A) plastic. We heard about it, some of us threw some out and we bought other stuff, and we see the “BPA free” stickers on new stuff now. But were you aware that there is a good chance you’re still taking in BPA? My friend Sarah wrote a blog on BPA plastic recently and it was enlightening to me. Technically, three weeks is tomorrow but I am starting a new job-which I am not sure if I’ve mentioned here. It is only 1.5-3 days per month. It’s for an audiologist that comes in to town from Reno. I’ll be their office person for when they’re here- checking patients in and out and cleaning hearing aids, answering the phone, transmitting info to the home office, that kind of thing. So anyway, I’ll be busy tomorrow so got this done today! See the video at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
I absolutely love hosting people for dinner. I grew up watching my mother host dinner parties, and as soon as I started learning to cook, I began hosting little gatherings. They started off kind of simple in college---paper plates, red solo cups, and friends scattered over my tiny dorm using any available surface as a chair. I still remember the first time I had my husband (then boyfriend) over for dinner. Read the rest by the Capital City Chef…
I think it’s so funny how Keegan says ‘cinnamon roll’ for some reason. I make him say it about 200 times a day and then I cackle like a deranged freak. So I thought I’d share that with you guys. And since Keegan saying “cinnamon roll” a couple of times is only like an 8 ..... See the video at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
No, there will be no naked boobs on the public page. I’m still considering how to handle that for those that want to see. (I don’t think it’s pervy interest, I wanted to see befores and afters when I was looking into this too.) The befores were taken about a week before surgery, I think. The afters were taken yesterday, so four days post op- so keep in mind that there is still a significant amount of swelling. Read the rest at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
The best burgers in New York City in my opinion are Shake Shack – its as if god himself opened it and declared it AWESOME! While I didnt steal this recipe from Shake Shack – I’m told by many this is as close as your going to get it without waiting on an hour and half line on a day like today! I did however lift this recipe from American’s test kitchen (so blame them if its not 100% and shake shack you can blame them too if everyone starts cooking this at home!) It’s been three days since the surgery. No video today, as you already know what I look like in my jogging suit and no makeup.. haha! I am still doing fabulous. The pain is very manageable, I’m down to only taking half a Percocet every three to four hours, and taking a couple Advil in between. Also, only half a Percocet doesn’t give me the reactions that a whole one does, it seems- I haven’t had to take a Zofran at all today. Read the rest at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
While in Texas a couple of weeks ago my sister in law Kari broke out dessert that she cooked which was this amazing Key Lime Pie (YUM and DROOL just thinking about it) after a few people on facebook commented on a post asking for the recipe (or more like begging and pleading) I would like to share an amazing and super easy to make Key Lime Pie recipe (THANKS KARI!) It is H-O-T!! The rain cooled things off just slightly for a couple of days, but today the high was back in the 90s. And, as usual, the heat + humidity is hitting me where it hurts most--my hair. Oh how I wish we were back in the 80s when frizzy hair was all the rage. I'm still not quite sure what the Founding Father's were thinking when they built this city over a swamp! Ok, I’m thinking a little more clearly, haven’t taken a Percocet in a while. So I thought I’d do a real post! Ok, let’s see… let’s start with Wednesday morning. I got up and took a shower and then we arrived at the surgical center around 5:45. I got checked in and they took us up to the surgical floor. It only took a few minutes before the nurse called us back to the prep area. I got changed into my gown and they asked all the typical questions. Read the rest at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
One of my favorite products is Natural Skin Shop’s Squalane Moisturizer. Since I began using this product my face has never felt better. Now what exactly is Squalane you ask? Squalane Oil is 100% plant based, and is derived from olives. (Bet you didn’t know the fruit you put in your martini, helps your skin). This moisturizer has almost the same molecular structure found in the natural oils in babies’ skin, which is why this hydrating product, Squalane, is nature’s perfect moisturizer. The sun is high, the breeze is warm, and the temperature is hot. This is a perfect day to go to the beach! We all know how much fun it is to spend a day at the beach, but have you ever wondered what good (or bad) affects it could have on your skin. If you have ever had questions about salty ocean water and sunshine, know that there are positives and negatives associated with a day at the beach. Read the rest from the Natural Skinshop Blog...
I have to admit that I rarely ever use nail polish. Most of the polish I buy ends up drying into a rock solid mass in the bottle. So, when the toxic nature of nail polish was first published, I ignored it. However, I came across an article about nail polish that, well, if I'd had socks on, they would have been blown off. I decided I had to get that information out to people. Read the rest by Placer Nature Center...
So I finally thought of a way to show you my boobs without actually showing you my boobs! I still get a lot of comments like “you don’t look like you need the breast augmentation”, so here I will show you why I desire the breast aug. See the video at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
The National Environmental Education Foundation's Earth Gauge reminded me that we especially need to beware of too much sun this summer. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun causes sunburn and other health effects, including skin cancer and cataracts. Everyone should protect themselves from the sun, and some groups can be particularly susceptible to health effects from sun exposure. Read the rest by Placer Nature Center...
So I am 7 months into my little blogging adventure, and I am still trying to get a feel for what people would like to see more or less of each week. I love it when people leave comments with suggestions because I like the idea of this blog being more of a dialogue than my personal cooking diary. Let's be honest, I still have a lot to learn. I also love it when I receive emails from people making special requests. In fact, I scream across the apartment for my husband to come see my "fan mail." Read the rest by the Capital City Chef…
Zum-thing I love
July 8, 2010
For a couple of years now, we have been using Zum Bar soap made by Indigo Wild and we love it! We discovered it in Kansas City, which is where it is made, and where my husband is from. On a trip to visit his parents in KC, his mom left a Clove-Mint Zum Bar in the bathroom for us to use, and it’s been love ever since. They smell amazing, they lather up nice and rich and are super moisturizing. And? They’re made of all natural ingredients. What’s not to love? Read the rest at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
