Have you ever wondered how the astronauts get their java jolt while in space? Endeavour shuttle astronaut Don Pettit brought up some instant coffee for his trip to space a couple years ago and he managed to invent a new way of drinking it. Read the rest from Philz Coffee...
Once Marley started showing the obvious signs that she only wanted to feed herself I started giving her more table foods in the form of Baby Led Weaning. Basically it allows you to give babies larger, solid chunks of prepared food and engages the baby to explore tastes and textured. I started out with soft and easy things like waffles, toast, fruit, noodles, pancakes, steamed veggies, scrambled eggs etc. I would cut them up into manageable sized chunks and put them on her highchair tray. This is probably one of those titles that make you slap your forehead and says “Duh, of course. Why wouldn’t we?” But sadly judging from the way kids are now more exposed to TV, hand held games and computers, active and imaginative playtime is not always a given. My older kids who used to spend hours creating with Lego and blocks or just coloring would rather, given the choice, veg out in front of the TV or play games on the computer. Technically, three weeks is tomorrow but I am starting a new job-which I am not sure if I’ve mentioned here. It is only 1.5-3 days per month. It’s for an audiologist that comes in to town from Reno. I’ll be their office person for when they’re here- checking patients in and out and cleaning hearing aids, answering the phone, transmitting info to the home office, that kind of thing. So anyway, I’ll be busy tomorrow so got this done today! See the video at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
I absolutely love hosting people for dinner. I grew up watching my mother host dinner parties, and as soon as I started learning to cook, I began hosting little gatherings. They started off kind of simple in college---paper plates, red solo cups, and friends scattered over my tiny dorm using any available surface as a chair. I still remember the first time I had my husband (then boyfriend) over for dinner. Read the rest by the Capital City Chef…
We’ve been doing a little shopping as of late for Marc, its time to start thinking about Fall… its been a long summer and there have been plenty of ketchup dropped on his current lines of t-shirts. First let me admit I’m a jeans and t-shirt guy 90% of the time that’s what you’ll find me in… Threadless [Link] filled a great need for me cool t-shirts at good prices and not ones that everyone and their mother have, but really cool unique designs. A sure sign I’m starting to feel much better: I have actually been cooking again! Last night I made Boeuf Bourguignon for dinner. It was the first time I’ve ever made it and the first time I’ve ever eaten it. It was amazing!! I invited my dad over, too, because my mom is out of town. I, as usual, forgot to take pictures of it. I get too distracted by eating it. I will be posting the recipe for it soon. It’s fairly easy, just time-consuming. Read the rest at Happy.Healthy.Homemade...
It’s week 17 of the Kindness Club. Thanks to all of you who have been reading and joining in on the weekly kindness prompts even if you are not posting or commenting. Last week’s Kindness Club prompt was to be on time. When you are on time you are communicating to the person you are meeting that you value their time and respect them. In rare circumstances there are legitimate excuses for being late, but most of the time it is just a lack of planning or not realizing what it means to be late. Read the rest at New Day New Lesson...
Eleven years ago tonight, I entered the hospital. I was miserable. I was pregnant. A smartass male nurse, the type with the witty repartee you see on TV but so rarely encounter in real life, sauntered in around midnight, began my evil Pitocin drip and handed me a very pretty little Haldol capsule. Jose said enjoy, chica. This will be the last night of full sleep you will have for eighteen years. Brother was not kidding. And yet…Read the rest at Rachel in the OC...
